This type of metal casting or lost wax casting has been used in India for over 4000 years. The charming folk motifs of Dhokra are fashioned from brass and copper based alloys using this old technique. There are two main processes of lost wax casting – solid casting and hollow casting. Hollow casting is the conventional method and it is popular in the eastern part of India. The artisans of Dhokra art are mainly based of Bankura and Bardhaman district of West Bengal.
